A Celebration of Heritage, Taste and Culture — September 15 & 16 in Paradise.
Every September, Mexico erupts with color, flavor, and emotion to celebrate its most cherished national holiday: El Grito de Independencia. And there’s no better place to experience this historic moment than the Riviera Maya—where cultural authenticity meets Caribbean beauty.
If you're living, investing, or vacationing here in 2025, this is your insider’s guide to where and how to celebrate in Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Cancún, and beyond.
Join locals in the main square for Playa’s official “Grito de Independencia” on the
night of September 15. The mayor leads the traditional shout from the balcony
of City Hall, followed by folkloric performances, mariachi bands, and a firework
spectacle over the palm-lined plaza.
Tip: Arrive early to enjoy food stalls with tamales, pozole, esquites, and
handmade tortillas—plus free public shows and live music.
For something unforgettable, Xcaret’s Xoximilco becomes a floating fiesta. Hop aboard
a traditional trajinera boat, decorated with lights and flags, and enjoy mariachi
performances, Mexican games, tequila tastings, and a 3-course regional dinner as
you cruise through the jungle.
This is a must-do for couples, families, and groups who want a blend of tradition, laughter, and luxury.
Each year, these iconic resorts host a gastronomic tour of Mexico, featuring 32 dishes
(one for each state) created by acclaimed chefs. The dinner is paired with performances,
storytelling, and a celebration of Mexican identity through flavors and design.
Limited seating available — reserve in advance for one of the most sought-after culinary events of the year.
Tulum celebrates with style and soul.
Sept 4: The town lights up with patriotic flags and decorative lights across the main avenue.
Sept 15: The traditional coronation of “Señorita Patria” and folkloric parades take over the plaza before the Grito echoes into the jungle night.
Local tip: Stay near the town center for easy access to parades, fireworks, and live music.
In Cancún, the energy turns electric as the city’s Avenida Tulum becomes a cultural hotspot. On both the 15th and 16th, expect:
Main stage performances by national artists
Fireworks displays by the beach
Family-friendly festivities in downtown plazas
Rosewood Mayakoba – Enjoy curated cocktails, a live Mexican band, and fireworks under the stars at the exclusive Zapote Bar.
Grand Velas Riviera Maya – Their Viva México dinner features traditional dishes like chiles en nogada, curated tequila pairings, and folkloric ballet performances in a five-diamond setting.
