Mexico:
A Country on the Rise, Says Oxford Business Group CEO
Andrew Jeffreys

Andrew Jeffreys

Andrew Jeffreys, CEO of Oxford Business Group, describes Mexico as "a country on the rise," poised to benefit from nearshoring opportunities. In an interview with El Economista, he highlighted Mexico's favorable conditions, especially the potential of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec trade corridor.

Jeffreys acknowledged Mexico's challenges but noted its progress as a major manufacturer and exporter. He emphasized the importance of recognizing past achievements and maintaining a positive outlook for the future, citing Mexico's strategic location, developed industries, and educated workforce.

Comparing Mexico's current opportunities to past economic booms in other regions, Jeffreys stressed the need for infrastructure improvements but remained optimistic. He pointed to the Interoceanic Corridor as a significant project that could rival the Panama Canal, enhancing global trade routes and attracting foreign investment.

Jeffreys' views are echoed by business leaders and President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum, who see nearshoring as a key economic driver. The Interoceanic Corridor, with its modernized infrastructure and tax incentives, is expected to bring major economic benefits and spur regional development.

A Mexican delegation will visit the U.S. to discuss investment opportunities in the corridor, which could see projects worth billions of dollars. Jeffreys highlighted that established and emerging industries could establish facilities in the corridor, boosting development and reducing transport costs.
