The most tranquil beaches to enjoy in Playa del Carmen

Everyone knows one of the biggest draws to the Riviera Maya are the white sand beaches and turquoise waters. The stunning beaches of Playa del Carmen attract thousands of tourists each year and there are plenty of exciting beach clubs to choose from. However, if you’re looking for something a little more laid back, quiet and private, it can be a struggle to find downtown. That’s why we’ve made a list of the most tranquil beaches in Playa, some of which feel completely untouched, so you don’t have to travel far to enjoy the peace and quiet of the Caribbean Sea.



Xcalacoco
Probably the most underrated beach in Playa del Carmen, the idyllic Xcalacoco. This tranquil area is often overlooked but has some of the widest, unspoilt stretches of shoreline in town. Most of this beach is lined with quiet residences, with only one beach club, Marena, offering food, drink and lounger service. For a no-frills, relaxing day at the beach, Xcalacoco is a great option.




Playa 72

Pet owners of Playa del Carmen have been waiting with bated breath for a dog friendly beach, and this year they finally got their wish. Playa 72 is officially the dog-friendly beach in town, where you can relax and play in the sand with your furry friend. The wide stretches of white sand make it perfect for your four legged friend to run, while the palm tree lined edges provide some much needed shade for you to stay cool.




Playacar Beach
A short walk from the Juarez ferry terminal, you will find Playacar Beach. This quiet oasis is often frequented by young travellers and digital nomads, looking for a quick dip to break up their day. This section of beach has absolutely no beach clubs or hotels, just quiet ocean-front houses that are set back away from the wide stretches of sand.




Playa 88
Located in Colosio, Playa 88 is a little ways out of centro but worth the trip. Unlike its neighbour Punta Esmeralda, which is often full of both tourists and locals, Playa 88 is always quiet. The shade given by the swaying palm trees coupled by the complete lack of beach clubs or pounding music, make Playa 88 the perfect place to relax and spend a tranquil afternoon at the beach.
